SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - A federal jury has awarded $1.5 million in compensatory damages to a pharmacist who developed breast cancer after taking Wyeth's menopause drug Prempro. Rivera-Adams v. Wyeth, No. 03-1713 (D. Puerto Rico).
In a Dec. 30 verdict, the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico jury determined that Helen Rivera-Adams proved by a preponderance of the evidence that her breast cancer was caused by Prempro and that Wyeth failed to adequately warn her doctors of this risk.
