Seaton, Century Will Attempt to Settle $3.2 Million Case

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - A Rhode Island federal magistrate judge has ordered Seaton Insurance Co. and Century Indemnity Co. to attempt settlement of their dispute over $3.2 million reinsurance recoverables. Seaton Insurance Co. v. Century Indemnity Co., No. 07-478 (D. R.I.).

On May 20, Magistrate Judge Lincoln D. Almond of the District of Rhode Island scheduled a settlement conference for July 7 and ordered the parties to submit a settlement conference statement before that date.

Seaton's predecessor, Unigard Mutual Insurance Co., insured Union Carbide Corp. under an excess umbrella liability policy, in effect 1973-76. Unigard also issued an excess umbrella …
