ST. LOUIS - A Missouri woman has filed a putative class action against various manufacturers and distributors of prescription opioids, alleging her adopted child was born with an opioid addiction caused by the defendants' negligent marketing of the drugs, which the birth mother abused during her pregnancy.

In a March 3 complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, the plaintiff says the defendant drug makers and distributors "intentionally and negligently created conditions in which vast amounts of opioids have flowed freely," causing a dramatic rise in the number of newborns born with opioid addiction.
