Department of Veterans Affairs Publishes Final Rule Allocating Money for Camp Lejeune Service Members

WASHINGTON, D.C. –– The Department of Veterans Affairs has earmarked more than $2 billion for veterans who say they were exposed to contaminated drinking water while serving at the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base Camp in North Carolina, according to a final rule.

The final rule was published in the National Register on Jan. 13 and establishes a presumption that veterans, former reservists, and former National Guard members who served at the base for no less than 30 days from 1953 to 1987, have veteran status for purposes of entitlement to some VA benefits.

The rule becomes effective March 14.
