Maryland Court Awards Summary Judgment to 5 Asbestos Defendants; Claims Against Gerogia-Pacific, MCIC Survive

BALTIMORE –– A Maryland court has issued an order awarding summary judgment to five asbestos defendants ruling, in part, that the plaintiffs had referred to categories of products instead of specific ones.

The U.S. District Court for District of Maryland’s July 25 order awarded summary judgment to Eaton Corp., Foster Wheeler, Schneider Electric, Union Carbide, and Crane Co.

Claims asserted against MCIC and Georgia-Pacific did survive summary judgment efforts, however.

In their complaint, the plaintiffs contended that Charles Lemuel Arbogast Jr. developed mesothelioma as a result of exposure to asbestos-containing products.
