New Jersey Jury Finds in Favor of Aon in Unicover Case

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.- A New Jersey jury has returned a defense verdict in favor of Aon Corp., finding that the broker fulfilled its fiduciary duty to the participants in the loss-riddled Unicover workers compensation reinsurance pool. ReliaStar Life Insurance Co. v. Aon Corp., et al., No. L-3916-03 (N.J. Super., Middlesex Cty.).

The case involved fraud claims brought by pool member ReliaStar Life Insurance Co. against Aon and Aon employee Roger Smith. The unanimous verdict, issued March 26, the jury found that Aon had not breached its duties to ReliaStar by failing to warn it of the pool's imminent collapse.
