DALLAS - A Texas federal jury has reached a full defense verdict in favor of a reinsurer, finding that it does not owe an additional $1 million toward the settlement of a medical malpractice suit. Baylor Health Care System v. Employers Reinsurance Corp., No. 3:05-00701 (N.D. Texas).
The unanimous June 6 verdict was entered in favor of Employers Reinsurance Corp. (ERC) in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
Baylor Health Care System was insured by its captive insurer, Church University Insurance Co., a captive insurer. Church was, in turn, reinsured by ERC.
