Parties Report Settlement of Miss. Silica Case; 3M Severed

LAUREL, Miss. - A case involving a former sandblaster who developed silicosis as a result of his dust exposure has settled two weeks before it was expected to be tried in Mississippi state court. Spratley v. Clark Sand Co., et al., No. 2004-61-CV4 (Miss. Cir. Ct., Jones Cty.).
According to sources, the claims of Larry Spratley were resolved with the final remaining defendant on May 14 for an undisclosed amount. Sources said Spratley may still pursue his case against defendant 3M, which was severed from the case so that the parties could proceed with trial preparation.
