U.S. District Court Administratively Closes MDL 1553

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - For the first time since its inception more than three years ago, the federal silica MDL has been administratively closed by the court due to a prolonged stretch of inactivity. In Re: Silica Products Liability Litigation, MDL Docket No. 1553 (S.D. Texas).
According to sources, the docket was shut down Sept. 29 by administrators in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, which has housed MDL 1553 since it was established Sept. 5, 2003, by the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation.
