CLEVELAND - The Welding Fume MDL defendants recently opposed a plaintiff motion to appoint an independent epidemiological expert, saying the defense has already funded two epidemiological studies and are currently conducting another one. In re: Welding Fume Products Liability Litigation. MDL No. 1535. Case No. 1:03-cv-17000 (N.D. Ohio).
In their Feb. 24 brief filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, the defendants said the plaintiffs' request is 'inappropriate' because the defendants have already funded the so-called Swedish and Danish studies, which revealed no association between welding and neurological injury.
