CLEVELAND -- Defendants in the Welding Fume MDL have filed a motion seeking sanctions against plaintiffs' counsel in two cases, along with the dismissal of thousands of additional claims they say are based on allegedly fabricated diagnoses by an expert who has 'designed and defined' the litigation. In re: Welding Fume Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 1535 (N.D. Ohio).

In the Dec. 6 motion filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, the defendants ask that the claims of any plaintiff who has been diagnosed with manganism or parkinsonism at screenings conducted by Dr. Paul Nausieda …
