Study Refutes Link Between Welding Fumes, Neurodegenerative Disorders

According to a study to be published in the May 2005 Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, there is no increase of neurodegenerative disorders in those participating in mild or stainless steel welding.
The study, 'A Cohort Study of Parkinson's Disease and Other Neurodegenerative Disorders in Danish Welders,' examined more than 25,000 Danish welders, and is said to be the first epidemiological cohort study of Parkinson's disease among welders.
Epidemiologist Dr. Jon Fryzek of the International Epidemiological Institute in Rockville, Md., headed the study, which was partially funded by a group of current and former manufacturers of welding consumables.
