HarrisMartin Interview with David J. Valiante, MS, CIH: Silicosis Trends In Highway Repair Workers




In a paper released last month in the American Journal of Public Health, researchers identified several incidents of silicosis among highway repair workers, signaling the possibility that a trend of silica-related diseases among those patching America's roadways may be emerging.

The research, reported in the June issue of COLUMNS-Silica, analyzed data from several state silicosis surveillance programs, and a recent industrial hygiene study that found silica dust levels that far exceeded regulatory limits at several highway work sites throughout New Jersey.
