SUMMARY: The researcher of the study indicates that it has been long appreciated that manganese exposure can cause neurotoxicity and a neurologic syndrome that resembles Parkinson's disease. In the study, the authors examines the clinical syndrome, response to levodopa, imaging studies with MRI and PET and pathologic features that all help to distinguish the two conditions and permit the correct diagnosis to be established.
