Settlement Ends Liberty Mutual's Appeal of $275,000 Silica Verdict

BATON ROUGE, La. - A settlement has been reached between a former sandblaster and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company after the insurer indicated that it would appeal a judge's award of nearly $275,000 to a plaintiff who suffered from silicosis. Parker v. Sline Company, Inc., et al., No. 2004-0027 (La. Ct. App., First Cir.).
According to sources in the First Circuit Louisiana Court of Appeal, Liberty Mutual earlier this year moved to dismiss its appeal of the verdict, citing a settlement reached with plaintiff Milbern Parker. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed and sources close to the case declined …
