It may not seem as though Schuylkill County, Pa., should have much in common with Silver Bow County, Mont. But both counties have been dubiously linked by silicosis mortality data released recently by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health(NIOSH).

In its Sixth Edition Work-Related Lung Disease Surveillance Report, NIOSH's Division of Respiratory Disease Studies presents data on occupational respiratory diseases, including various information on silicosis trends throughout the United States.
