GALVESTON, Texas — A federal judge awarded summary judgment to BP Products North America Inc. on claims asserted by a Texas police officer who was allegedly exposed to chemicals released from several refineries during a 2011 power outage.
Citing a lack of supporting expert evidence offered in support of the officer’s claim, Magistrate Judge Nancy K. Johnson of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas said in the Nov. 4 decision that it cannot be shown, based only on the officer’s testimony, that chemicals released from the refineries caused his alleged injuries.
