LEXINGTON, Miss. - Several dozen plaintiffs in Mississippi have filed a complaint against some 75 defendants in Holmes County Circuit Court claiming that the actions of the sand and respirator manufacturers were to blame for the development of silica-related injuries and in some cases death. Hammett v. Clark Sand Co., No. 2002-303 (Miss. Cir. Ct., Holmes Cty.).

The complaint, filed recently on behalf of 57 plaintiffs allegedly exposed to silica, names those who sold silica-containing products and products used during sandblasting operations, as well as those who manufactured products designed to protect workers from inhaling respirable silica dust particles.
