Mississippi Valley Silica Sends Garnishment Action Over $1 Million Verdict to Federal Court

JACKSON, Miss. — A silica defendant that was assessed more than $1 million in damages by a Mississippi state trial court has removed to federal court a garnishment action filed recently against the company and its insurers by parties attempting to collect the judgment.
Mississippi Valley Silica Company filed the notice of removal Feb. 27 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, citing diversity of the parties involved in the case. The now-defunct Mississippi Valley is a Delaware corporation that once had its principal place of business in Louisiana.
