Judge Dismisses Mechanics’ Hexavalent Chromium Lawsuit Against United Airlines

OAKLAND, Calif. — A federal judge has dismissed a suit by United Airlines workers claiming exposure to hexavalent chromium, saying the claims against United do not fall within a fraudulent concealment exception to workers’ compensation preclusion and that repair contractor Leading Edge Aviation Services owed no duty of care to the plaintiffs.
Judge Phyllis J. Hamilton entered the order for dismissal with prejudice in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California Nov. 27, saying that the court has previously granted plaintiffs leave to amend and further amendment would be futile.
