Travelers, St. Paul Ask Court to Rule on Coverage for $874,732 Mississippi Silica Judgment

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Travelers Casualty and Surety Co. (NYSE: TRV) and affiliate St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Co. have asked a federal court to declare that policies they issued to Mississippi Valley Silica Co. in the 1970s pre-dated any possible silica exposures at issue in a recent personal injury suit.
The two carriers filed their declaratory judgment action June 25 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, a week after the same court remanded a garnishment action filed against Mississippi Valley by plaintiffs in the same underlying case (See a related story in this issue …
