Summary: A review of the risk assessment for effects that certain alpha-Quartz properties, which allow the substance to persist over a long period of time in the lung, creating a risk factor for silicosis and, with increasing weight of evidence, lung cancer. The article discusses the assessment of diffraction line broadening by measuring the full-width-at-half-maximum, or FWHM.
