Illinois Central Railroad Worker Links Kidney Cancer to Workplace Chemicals

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — A former employee of the Illinois Central Railroad says in a recently filed complaint that his kidney cancer resulted from his employer’s failure to protect him from exposure to harmful chemicals during his 39-year career.

Plaintiff William Grammer filed the action April 23 in the Circuit Court of Madison County, Ill., under provisions of the Federal Employers’ Liability Act (45 U.S.C. §, et seq.).

Grammer was employed by ICRC from 1972 through 2011, working at various times as a switchman, brakeman, conductor, yardmaster and assistant yardmaster.
