Tenn. Court Orders Alstom Power to Continue Paying Worker’s Welding-Related Medical Costs

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Tennessee workers’ compensation appeals court has ordered Alstom Power Inc. to continue paying for medical care prescribed for welding-related asthma even though the worker is no longer exposed to welding fumes.
The Supreme Court of Tennessee Special Workers’ Compensation Appeals Panel issued its decision April 10, affirming the judgment of the Hamilton County Chancery Court in favor of claimant Eric Grier.
Grier initially sought benefits from Alstom Power for asthma his physician attributed to workplace exposure to welding fumes. The parties settled the workers’ compensation claim, with Alstom agreeing to pay $131,960 in permanent partial disability …
