Tyson Foods Agrees to $3.95 Million in Fines for Workplace Ammonia Violations

ST. LOUIS — Tyson Foods Inc. (NYSE: TSN) has agreed to pay $3.95 million penalty to settle allegations by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that it failed to meet Clean Air Act standards in protecting workers or emergency responders from potential exposure to anhydrous ammonia from refrigeration units.
The Consent Decree between Tyson and EPA, which also includes a pledge to purchase $300,000 in safety equipment, was filed April 4 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.
The agreement covers alleged violations at 23 Tyson meat-processing facilities in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas.
