SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A California appellate court has affirmed an order sought by Celanese Corp. (NYSE: CE) and an industry group to prevent the inclusion of styrene and vinyl acetate on California’s list of known carcinogens and reproductive toxins.
California’s Third District Court of Appeal agreed with Celanese and the Styrene Information and Research Center Oct. 31 that the scope of the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Proposition 65) is limited to substances that are known to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity.
