OSHA Cites American Masonry for Violating Lead Safety Standards at Sandblasting Site

CHICAGO — The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has fined American Masonry Inc. $196,000 for sandblasting operations that it said exposed its own workers and workers at art studios in a commercial building to excessive lead levels.
The Nov. 6 citation for willful violations naming Waclaw Cilulko, doing business as American American Masonry in Chicago, was announced by OSHA’s Region 5 Nov. 13.
Violations included failure to implement a written lead compliance program, failure to provide personal protection equipment or clean changing rooms, and failure to vacuum and remove lead dust form the worksite.
