Alaska Supreme Court Rejects Spill Worker’s Claims Against Alyeska Pipeline

JUNEAU, Alaska — Alaska’s highest court has affirmed dismissal of an oil spill worker’s injury claims against the Alyeska Pipeline Service Co., ruling that the plaintiff failed to demonstrate the requisite employer-employee relationship that would support claims under the state and federal statutes cited.
The Supreme Court also found in its unpublished opinion Sept. 12 that Alyeska — which operates the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System on behalf of its five owners — did not have liability as the pipeline’s “product manager” for injuries to spill workers resulting from the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill.
