Evaluation of Compliance with Occupational Silica Exposure Limits: GRANITE SHEDS

photo-6In the June issue of Applied Occupational and Environmental Hygiene, Arthur R. Wickman and Paul J. Middendorf published a study of silica exposures for 40 workers in 10 granite sheds in Elberton, Ga. (see Summary Review below). According to Mr. Wickman, the results of this study showed lower exposures compared to some other industries but provide a valuable data set for silica levels between the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) threshold limit value (TLV) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) permissible exposure limit (PEL).
