AMARILLO, Texas - A Texas appeals court has affirmed a $676,000 judgment for a retail clerk who alleged his enteroviral meningitis and Lemierre's Syndrome was caused by exposure to human waste from repeated drain backups at work. Scott's Marina at Lake Grapevile Ltd., et al. v. Brown, No. 07-10-00277-CV (Texas Ct. App., 7th Dist.).
The Seventh District Texas Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 Jan. 23 that jurors had a sufficient basis to conclude that Allen J. Brown's persistent serious illness was caused by his exposure to bacteria in spillages he was required to clean at work.
