OSHA Proposes $220,000 Fine for Syracuse Aluminum Foundry
February 25, 2011
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed $220,000 in fines for an aluminum foundry in Syracuse, N.Y., the agency said has failed to correct silica and electrical hazards discovered during previous inspections.
OSHA announced its proposed fines against Oberdorfer LLC on Jan. 31, saying the company hasn't complied with orders issued in July.
The agency said violations included employee exposure to airborne silica exceeding permissible limits and a failure to implement engineering controls to reduce exposure.
OSHA also said it found one employee with elevated exposure levels who lacked a respirator.
