Insurers Remove Garnishment Actions Filed in Wake of $1.96 Million Silica Judgment

JACKSON, Miss. - Several insurers have removed claims for writ of garnishment filed against them by a Mississippi man seeking recovery of the $2 million he was awarded last year for injuries he sustained as a result of exposure to silica. Eastman v. Mississippi Valley Silica Co., et al., No. 10-169 (S.D. Miss.).
Removal notices were filed Oct. 29 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi by carriers that provided coverage to Mississippi Valley Silica Co., the defendant found 60 percent responsible for causing Robert Eastman's silica-related injuries.
