Judge Orders London Insurers to Pay Jacksonville Shipyard Defense Costs

BOSTON - A federal judge has ordered a group of London insurers to pay one third of a nearly $3 million bill submitted by defense firms that represented Jacksonville Shipyards Inc. in silica litigation after 2005. Stonewall Insurance Co., et al. v. Travelers Casualty and Surety Co., et al., No. 06-11506 (D. Mass).
In his Jan. 4 memorandum and order, Judge Edward F. Harrington of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts said that although the London insurers had voluntarily funded Jacksonville Shipyard's defense prior to 2005, they had not paid their proper share after two other insurers …
