JACKSON, Miss. - A physician and testifying expert in silica and asbestos litigation has sued his professional liability insurer for refusing to defend him against claims that he masterminded a plan to generate millions of dollars through false medical documentation of asbestos-related claims. Segarra v. Bottrell Insurance Agency Inc., et al., No. 2009-1821 (Miss. Chan. Ct., Jackson Cty.).

Dr. Jay T. Segarra filed the declaratory judgment and damages complaint Aug. 5 in Jackson County Chancery Court, alleging that his insurer breached its obligation to defend and indemnify him from claims based on his professional work. Segarra, who maintains an active …
