W.Va. Jurors Find for Defense in Latest Welding Fumes Trial




POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. - A six-person jury in Mason County, W.Va., issued a unanimous verdict for welding industry defendants on Aug. 5, rejecting claims that injuries to former welder John Belcher were caused by fumes from their products. Adkins v. Airco, et al., No. 06-103 (W.Va. Cir. Ct., Mason Cty.).

Counsel reported that jurors deliberated for one hour and 40 minutes after an eight-day trial before Circuit Judge David W. Nibert.

Trial Defendants included Lincoln Electric Company Inc., Hobart Brothers Inc. and The BOC Group Inc. Belcher was the only plaintiff at trial, although other plaintiffs remain in the case.
