OSHA Fines Firm $169,500 for Failing to Address Welding Hazards
January 20, 2009
BUFFALO - An auto equipment manufacturer in upstate New York has been fined $169,500 by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration for failing to correct workplace hazards cited during an OSHA inspection.
OSHA area director Arthur Dube said in announcing the fines against The Wendt Corp. on Dec. 13 that "uncorrected and unaddressed hazards pose an ongoing risk to employees' health and safety."
Wendt, which makes recycling equipment for the auto industry at its Tonawanda, N.Y., facility, was cited for 15 safety violations in April, and was fined $13,500 at that time, according to OSHA.
