Bloomberg: Vioxx Study May Be Corrected to Add Unreported Heart Attacks

Bloomberg News reported May 3 that the Annals of Internal Medicine may soon publish a correction to a Merck & Co.-sponsored study of Vioxx that indicates the drug had a higher risk of heart attacks than was originally reported in the study.

According to the report, the 2003 study listed five heart attacks among arthritis drugs patents taking Vioxx, compared with one who was taking the pain reliever Naproxen. However, the report says that three additional fatal cardiac arrests among the Vioxx group went undocumented in the study.
