TITLE: Disturbance of Vision by COX-2 Inhibitors

JOURNAL: Expert Opinion on Drug Safety 2004 Nov;3(6):607-14

AUTHORS: D.M. Coulter, D.W. Clark

SUMMARY: A review of 35 cases of acute, reversible, and sometimes severe disturbances of vision that the authors say is closely associated with use of Celebrex and Vioxx. The reactions, which included temporary blindness, visual field defect, scotoma, techopsia, blurred and abnormal vision, had a mean onset time of 9.5 days, with recovery occurring within three days following withdrawal of the drug. The review describes possible mechanisms for the type of reaction.
