EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- Enbrel, a biological product used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease, allegedly caused a Texas man to develop multiple sclerosis and optic neuritis, according to a lawsuit he recently filed against the manufacturer. Stephen Hayner and April Hayner v. Amgen, Inc., MID-L-4064-03 (N.J. Sup. Ct., Middlesex Cty.).
Amgen, along with other companies such as Immunex Corp. and Wyeth, failed to sufficiently warn consumers of the drug's ability to cause central nervous system disorders, the suit states.
