RENO, Nev. - A Nevada judge has cut a $134 million verdict down by more than half, finding the award to three women who claim their breast cancer was caused by Wyeth's Prempro and Premarin hormone replacement drugs was excessive. Rowatt, et al.[McCreary] v. Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, et al., No. CV04-01699 (Nev. Dist. Ct., Washoe Cty. ).
On Feb. 19, Washoe County District Court Judge Robert Perry reduced the total verdict to $58 million, finding that the original award of $35 million in compensatory damages was "flagrantly improper" and was influenced by the jury's feelings regarding punitive damages.
