Merck to Resolve Vioxx Lawsuits with $4.85 Billion Settlement Fund

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. - Merck & Co. has announced that it will pay $4.85 billion as part of a settlement of U.S. Vioxx claims that meet a specified set of criteria established under the agreement.
Merck announced the deal on Nov. 9 in a statement issued on the company's web site after parties signed the agreement before three of the four judges overseeing the coordination of more than 95 percent of all Vioxx claims pending in the United States.
