Court: Antidepressant Maker Need Not Submit Discovery on Related Drugs

OMAHA, Neb. - A drug manufacturer sued for failing to warn that its antidepressant could cause young patients to commit suicide cannot be forced to provide plaintiffs with information about side effects associated with similar drugs, but must provide data regarding all related psychological side effects linked to the drug. Doyle v. Eli Lilly & Co., No. 06-412 (D. Neb.).
The order came July 9 from the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska in a case brought against Eli Lilly & Company by the surviving family of a 9-year-old boy who hung himself after taking Strattera.
