First of Avandia Suits Says Manufacturer Should Have Pulled Drug

NEW ORLEANS - A woman who claims she was injured as a result of taking Avandia says in a lawsuit filed against the manufacturer that the diabetes drug should have been pulled from the market before recent news indicating that it increases the risk of heart attack. Dabon v. GlaxoSmithKline Inc., No. 07-3041 (E.D. La.).
Sharon Ann Dabon filed her complaint May 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, asserting that GlaxoSmithKline hid information about the risk of heart attack, liver injury and other side effects associated with Avandia.
