PHILADELPHIA - Ten plaintiffs sued Wyeth Pharmaceuticals on Oct. 27 blaming the company's Effexor antidepressant for seven deaths, two suicide attempts and one incarceration. Baumgardner, et al. v. Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. No. n/a. (E.D. Pa.).
Renee N. Baumgardner and nine others sued Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, claiming that Effexor (venlafaxine HCl) is responsible for the significant damages suffered by the plaintiffs and their families. They assert claims under the wrongful death acts of the states where the deaths occurred, the plaintiffs' state of residence, or Pennsylvania law.
