DAYTON, Ohio - An Ohio woman sued Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical on April 5, alleging that the three blood clots she suffered were a direct result of using its birth control patch, Ortho Evra. Bernard v. Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical Inc. No. 3:05-cv-07146 (N.D. Ohio.).
Plaintiff Demetria A. Bernard, 32, used Ortho Evra (norelgestromin/ethinyl estradiol transdermal system) from August 2002 until April 2004, when she went to the emergency department complaining of left shoulder pain and shortness of breath.
