Bayer Pharmaceuticals Moves to Dismiss PPA Claims in Georgia Lawsuit

ATLANTA - Bayer Pharmaceuticals moved to dismiss claims by a Georgia woman who alleges that over-the-counter cold medications containing PPA caused her hemorrhagic stroke. Thompson v. Bayer Corporation, et al. No. 1:05-cv-1065 (N.D. Ga.).
Bayer Pharmaceuticals contends it 'was not in existence and was not doing business in Georgia or elsewhere' when plaintiff Gertrude Thompson suffered a stroke. The company said it was not incorporated until November 2002 and did not register to do business in Georgia until February 2003.
Thompson suffered a hemorrhagic stroke in January 2001, which she blames on PPA (phenylpropanolamine) in the over-the-counter cold medications …
