TEXARKANA, Texas -- A federal judge ruled on Feb. 14 that a medical expert's affidavit was 'not sufficiently scientifically reliable' in explaining why a mercury-based preservative caused neurological problems in an autistic child. Easter v. Aventis Pasteur Inc., et al. No. 5:03-cv-141. (E.D. Texas, Texarkana Div.).
Plaintiff Vera Easter sued vaccine manufacturers Aventis Pasteur, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck and Wyeth, thimerosal manufacturer Eli Lilly, and immune globulin manufacturers Bayer, Johnson & Johnson, and Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics in June 2003, claiming that her son developed neurological injuries as a result of exposure to thimerosal in the vaccines.
