Women's Health Initiative Says Cardiac Study Flawed

BETHESDA, MD. - Representatives from the Women's Health Initiative said Dec. 13 that a recent study showing that oral contraceptives have a positive cardiovascular effect was flawed.

The WHI issued a lengthy statement from Director Barbara Alving, M.D., criticizing the study presented in October by Dr. Rahi Victory and her colleagues from Wayne State University.

Dr. Alving said the WHI review 'has found flaws in both the design and interpretation of the WHI data used in the study.
