Woman Claiming Metabolife Caused Stroke Awarded $7.4 Million

HOUSTON - A woman who claimed her use of Metabolife caused her to suffer a stroke in April 2002 was awarded $7.4 million by a Harris County, Texas jury on June 23. McAllister v. Metabolife International Inc. et al. No. 2001-3083A (Texas Dist. Ct., Harris Cty., 295th Jud. Dist.).
The jury, which consisted of nine men and three women, deliberated for nearly six hours before reaching its unanimous decision. Harris County District Court Judge Tracy Christopher presided over the one-and-one-half -week trial which began June 1.
