9 Plaintiffs File Suit against Makers of Actos

SHREVEPORT, La. - Nine individuals who claim they sustained injuries as a result of using Actos filed suit March 19 against Takeda Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly, the manufacturers of the type II diabetes drug. Speed, et al. v. Takeda Pharmaceuticals, et al. No. 04-CV-702 (W.D. La.).

Bessie Speed and her co-plaintiffs claim that the companies fraudulently claimed that Actos was safer than other treatments for type II diabetes mellitus.

The plaintiffs, whose use of Actos ranged from one month to four years, allegedly suffered injuries such as fluid retention, sudden weight gain, shortness of breath, weakness, fatigue and stomach problems.
